Budget power stations under $300: what’s actually still buyable
Here’s something most “best budget power station” listicles won’t tell you: the budget tier is in transition right now. Two of the three best-known sub-$300 units are being wound down by their manufacturers. This comparison tells you what’s actually buyable today, not what was a good deal in 2024.
All specs below are manufacturer specifications checked 2026-10-15 against the product records. We have not hands-on tested any of these units.
The availability situation (read this first)
- BLUETTI EB3A: BLUETTI’s US page now marks it discontinued and out of stock. Still available on Amazon at street prices (~$198 last seen). Buyable, but only third-party.
- EcoFlow RIVER 3 (base): EcoFlow US no longer sells the base model direct — the page redirects to the RIVER 3 Max bundle ($319). Effectively unavailable new from the manufacturer.
- Jackery Explorer 500: Jackery’s direct page redirects to the newer HomePower 1000 v2. Available on Amazon at street prices (~$299 last seen).

What the numbers mean
The Explorer 500 has nearly double the capacity of the other two (518Wh vs. ~250Wh) — but it’s the older NMC chemistry, rated around 500 cycles to 80%+. The EB3A’s LiFePO4 battery is rated 2,500+ cycles: roughly five times the cycle life. For occasional outage use, NMC is fine. See LiFePO4 batteries in plain English.
The RIVER 3 is the most portable (7.8 lbs) with the fastest recharge (~60 min), but 300W continuous output limits it to small electronics. And the base model is effectively gone; the $319 Max bundle is a different product at a different price.
The EB3A hits the sweet spot on paper — 600W output, LiFePO4 longevity, 200W solar input — but you’re buying an outgoing model from third-party stock. Fine if the price is right; check the seller’s return policy.
The verdict (reasoning disclosed)
- Need something cheap today for phones/laptops/lights? The Explorer 500 at ~$299 street is the most buyable of the three and has the most capacity. Accept the NMC chemistry — at this price and for occasional use, it’s fine.
- Find the EB3A under $200 on Amazon? That’s the value play — LiFePO4, 600W output, more versatile than the other two.
- Can you stretch to ~$500? Leave this tier entirely. The 1kWh class (DELTA 3, Explorer 1000 v2, AC180) is where the actual value is right now.
We’ll update this page as the replacement models land — that’s the point of a maintained comparison.
