How Outage Brief makes money
Plain language, full disclosure. Last updated: 2026-10-15.
Affiliate commissions
Outage Brief earns a commission when you buy through links on this site or in our newsletter, at no extra cost to you.
- Commissions never determine our rankings, recommendations, or which deals appear. Editorial order is based on fit and evidence, never commission rate.
- Every affiliate link is marked at the point of recommendation: [Affiliate link — we may earn a commission.]
- This page, our about page, and our site footer all disclose the relationship. The FTC requires affiliate relationships to be clear, conspicuous, and near the recommendation — that’s the standard we hold ourselves to.
Sponsorships (future)
We do not currently run sponsored placements. When sponsorships begin:
- They will be clearly labeled as sponsored — you’ll always know when money changed hands for visibility.
- Sponsors never influence product ordering, rankings, or deal verdicts. A sponsored slot is advertising, not editorial.
- We accept sponsors in power, preparedness, solar, and insurance-adjacent education categories only.
- We do not accept: pay-for-ranking arrangements, fear-based marketing, unsafe products, or any undisclosed placement.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell your email address or personal data. (Privacy policy)
- We don’t publish “best of” lists ranked by commission.
- We don’t present AI-assisted research as field reporting. Research and drafting on this site are AI-assisted and human-policy-reviewed.
