About Outage Brief

Outage Brief helps you choose the smallest safe battery system that can power your essentials — then tells you when it’s actually a good time to buy.

How it works

We’re a research-driven publication, maintained continuously. Every product record shows where each specification came from and when it was checked. Every price carries a timestamp. When something changes — a price drop, a new model, a recall — the record updates, and the important changes go out in the weekly newsletter.

What we’re not

  • Not lab testers. We haven’t touched most of these units. We say whose data we’re citing — manufacturer spec, third-party test, or our own analysis — and we never imply hands-on testing that didn’t happen.
  • Not electricians. Anything involving transfer switches, panel interlocks, or whole-home wiring belongs to a licensed electrician and the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Not a store. We don’t sell power stations. We link to manufacturers and retailers, and we may earn a commission when you buy through those links — here’s exactly how that works.

How we rank things

By fit for the scenario, disclosed every time. A fridge-overnight buyer and a van-lifer should get different answers, and our comparisons say which is which. Commissions never determine rankings or recommendations — if a higher-commission product ranks lower, that’s the system working.
